I wont ask about this word. I find in English wiktionary translation of noun en:meal is this Swedish word. Meaning in English is corect for this Swedish word or not? I wont translate this meaning to Lithuanian. Vpovilaitis 21 maj 2008 kl. 17.48 (CEST)[svara]

"Måltid" means "meal", yes. --Andreas Rejbrand 21 maj 2008 kl. 17.59 (CEST)[svara]
"Mål" means "meal" to, then "måltid" should mean "mealtime" a time, not a meal. Baltazuvedra 22 maj 2008 kl. 08.56 (CEST)[svara]
I don't agree. "måltid" is what you eat, not the time (although it sounds like it), so "meal" is correct. "mål" is very rarely used in Swedish at all, but does have the same meaning as "måltid". //Skal 22 maj 2008 kl. 12.32 (CEST)[svara]
Mål is not rarely used, just used a bit differently. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are so called huvudmål or huvudmåltider (main meals), but you can basically ofcourse "inta en måltid" (have a meal) at any point of time. If you eat something lighter between the main meals, like a sandwich or a fruit, this is called "mellanmål" - "in-between-meal"/snack. The dietician recommends that you have 5 meals (or actually 5 times having something to eat) per day. In Swedish you say "dietisten rekommenderar att man äter 5 mål mat om dagen". 3 main meals and 2 snacks. So according to my view a "mål" or a "mål mat" can be either a "måltid" or a "mellanmål". So måltid, mål, mellanmål are all about food. Lunchtid is not food, however: it is the time when people usually are having lunch (from noon to 1 p.m.). Mealtime is translated to "matdags" - "time for food", "lunchdags" - "time for lunch". ~ Dodde 22 maj 2008 kl. 18.01 (CEST)[svara]
Tack för förklaring! Nu fattar jag skillnaden. Baltazuvedra 23 maj 2008 kl. 09.39 (CEST)[svara]
