Something is wrong with the counting:

  • English has 45.4% nouns, 12.2% verbs, 45% adjectives and 3.4% adverbs which makes 106%.
  • Latin has 70.9% nouns, 2.9% verbs, 6.7% adjectives and 5.6% adverbs which makes 86.1%. What about the missing 14%?
  • Estniska has 88.7% nouns 0.8% verbs, 5% adjectives and 0.9% adverbs which makes 95.4%. What about the missing 5%

No, this is quite okay. A word such as "phone" is both a noun and a verb and thus counted in both categories. If that were the only English word, there would be 1 entry, 1 noun (100%) and 1 verb (100%). Estonian has 31 numerals, 16 interjections etc. There are more parts of speech than are presented as percentages here. (Numerals tend to be on the order of a few hundred, prepositions a few dozen, for all languages, so it's less interesting to present them as percentages. The interesting balance is the one between the very large categories: nouns, verbs, adjectives.) --LA2 (diskussion) 28 september 2019 kl. 00.13 (CEST)[svara]
